Before spending a small fortune in an antivirus application for Windows Home Server, you can consider the open source version called WHS ClamAV. WHS ClamAV is an application designed specifically for WHS, unlike some of the hacked version of antivirus applications for Windows, which can be harmful to the server. The current available version of WHS ClamAV is 0.1.8.28639. It can be downloaded here.
As it is in early beta version, its GUI is still under a lot of development. The installation is smooth, although it takes a couple of separate steps to complete. This is how it is done.
Step 1. Upload the .msi file of the latest version to Windows Home Server, and put the file under the Software -> Add-Ins folder.
Step 2. Open Windows Home Server console and goto Settings -> Add-ins.
Step 3. Click the Install button of WHS ClamAV under the Available tab. Restart the console once the installation has completed.
Step 4. Go back to Settings once again and click the WHS ClamAV icon on the left navigation bar. Under the Install tab you will see “WHS ClamAV is not installed”. Don’t panic!! Just click the Install button to its right.
Step 5. The installation should be completing smoothly and the whole installation is now completed. Now you can goto the WHS ClamAV icon on the top navigation bar to start the scanning job.
